# Sad News: Larry Phillips, a champion stock-car racer from Springfield who raced for four decades, died today after a four-year battle with lung cancer. He was 62. Phillips retired in 2000 after a career during which he won five NASCAR National Short-Track Championships, competing mostly at Lebanon I-44 Speedway and Bolivar Speedway. Phillips began his racing career in 1960 at the Springfield Fairgrounds Speedway and won an estimated 900 feature races on both dirt and paved surfaces during his career. He was inducted in the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.(Springfield News-Leader), Phillips made one Cup start in 1976 at Ontario, CA, starting 24th and finishing 13th.(9-21-2004)

Yes definatley sad news, Larry was a true racing legend,was good in just about everythang he sat in. I,m sure glad i got to see him race and he will truley be missed www.dirtfans.com/LarryPhillips.html
